Cape Cod Fishing Report

| Fishing, Fishing Report, Fishing Reports

As we transition into the month of June, cautious anglers will take notice that this is BIG bass month. June is your best shot at a trophy sized striper, especially from the shore or in shallow water here on Cape. We are continuing to experience waves of large Striped Bass, as they push through the canal producing some epic mornings down there on the ditch. These early season pushes of big fish gives you your best shot at a fresh, hungry, and more easily fooled big striper. June will harbor some great tides, good moon phases and some good weather.

As of Thursday, a hot spot continuing to be on fire is the Herring River in Harwich. Earlier in the week, a cold front mixed with wet weather turned the fishing on BIG time. Hungry fish 30 inches plus were more than willing to snack on a fly,  properly presented Hogy plastic, SP minnow or spook style topwater baits. Reports have been confirmed that large schools of menhaden were seen in Cotuit Bay getting harassed by large stripers under a full moon during a night time outing. These schools of bunker will make their way down the south side, up the canal and towards Chatham within the next day or so. If you can find the schools of bunker, you will have an excellent shot at big bass.

Cape Cod Bay is also good fishing. Very large stripers have been caught on the flats of Brewster. Barnstable Harbor continues to be a hotspot as well. Mackerel and sand eels are heavily present. Live-lining either of these baits can produce countless bass.

Congratulations to Team Compass for taking 1st place in the Cheeky School Tournament held in West Dennis this Saturday. There was an enormous turnout, and I think everyone who participated had a good time, and made some new fishing friends. Black Eel outfitters was a proud sponsor for this Tournament, and we are looking forward to next years event as well.
